Welcome to another addition of ATX Gluten-Free News. Lately I have spent most of my time in the kitchen, but with Austin Restaurant Week approaching, I hope to get out and try some delicious new restaurants. Make sure and stop by Wednesday for the next Austin gluten-free blogger in my new blog series.

I have lots of Austin gluten-free news to report this week! I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful spring time weather. This week is my birthday week, which for the first time in my life, I am not that excited about. Maybe it is because I am getting older? In the past years, I took it as an excuse to celebrate all month-long. This time, I want it to pass as quickly as possible! I am finished with another semester of graduate school and have a month off- a much-needed break. I’ll be spending some time getting my website up and going, catching some gorgeous Texas rays and testing some recipes. [Read more...]
Amy, from Simply Sugar and Gluten Free, recently asked me if I would like to take part in a series she is doing for “up and coming gluten-free bloggers”. Of course, I was honored to be a part of the series. Amy’s blog has been one of my favorites for some time now. She puts together many delicious recipes that have a healthy twist.
My submission was this beautiful roasted carrot pasta with beets, fresh thyme and goat cheese. It is divine and beautiful to entertain with. Head on over to Amy’s blog to read the entire post I wrote to accompany the pasta.
Jason’s Deli is considering bringing gluten-free bread to all US locations. They are asking you to vote on whether you would buy the gluten-free bread. To vote, click here :
The Jason’s Deli by the Arboretum is holding a test run on gluten-free bread. You are able to go there and have a gluten-free sandwich! I am not sure how long the test will run, but hurry before it’s too late!
This post is not an April Fool’s joke. I promise!
Things have been pretty hectic in my life recently, mainly with school. I can’t wait to finish this Master’s program! Some good news- I found a local web designer for my new ATX Gluten-Free website. I am thrilled to see the final outcome. My sister, @JennyMeyerArt, is a local artist and had her website overhauled by the same designer. Check it out here: Jenny Meyer Art

The first signs of Spring are starting to appear- warmer days (besides the freakish snow storm we had last week!), flowers blooming, birds chirping. It is a beautiful time to be in Austin, Texas. There has been some great news in the gluten-free area of Austin recently. Many places are becoming more gluten-free friendly. Here are some updates on Austin gluten-free news:
Maggiano’s opened up in The Domain this week. They do not have an actual gluten-free menu, but I was told from one of the people at Brinker International that- the Chefs “take pride in creating meals for people with food allergies and Celiac Disease.” They serve a rice pasta as a substitution and may be able to customize dishes to accommodate those with food allergens, such as gluten or nuts. Lauren from Celiac Teen (who by the way has some amazing gluten-free recipes!) recently put together an eBook for Haiti. All proceeds will go to the Canadian Red Cross, which then goes to Haiti to help those in need. The cool thing is that the Canadian Government has agreed to match whatever is made in donations for Haiti until February 12th. Of course, you may continue to donate after February 12th.
I was honored to be a part of this eBook and thought my Balsamic- BBQ pulled pork sandwiches would be perfect for my contribution. There are many gluten-free/dairy-free recipes in this book, as well as non gluten-free recipes. Lots of great information from some of the internet’s best food blogs. Overall, there are 87 recipes from 71 people, WOW! What a great idea Lauren- thank you for being so kind and putting this together.
The minimum donation is $10, but you are welcome to donate more. [Read more...]
