It’s that time of the year … pumpkin everything. It’s beginning to finally feel like fall (takes a while in Texas) – football season is in full swing, the Austin City Limits Music Festival is going on, and you begin to see pumpkin recipes everywhere. I love this time of year!

Where have I been? Well, I’m a newlywed. Yep! Chris and I finally got hitched September 14th in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It was such a wonderful time, and we enjoyed spending our honeymoon in Grand Cayman. I’ll upload some pictures when I have them so you can catch a glimpse of our special day.

In the spirit of this wonderful time of year, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite pumpkin recipes that you can add to your fall menu lineup. Satisfy your craving for pumpkin with the following recipes!

Morning Smoothie

Morning Smoothie

Morning Smoothie – filled with nutritious ingredients. Taken on Instagram.

I have been needing a mix-up of my morning breakfast routine. Eggs, toast and fruit or gluten-free oatmeal, can get old after a while. A smoothie is my answer, as of lately. It’s healthy, fast, fresh and fills you up!

We have been so busy lately! In between events (Whew! SXSW wore me out!), work and wedding planning; I feel like I haven’t been able to take a breather and relax 100%. Speaking of wedding planning, things are moving along nicely. I actually went wedding dress shopping recently and found “the ONE” in Austin at a cute local boutique. It feels real that it’s getting close and I’m thrilled.

Locate Special Diet will be making an appearance at a couple events around Texas soon. Make sure and check out the Texas VegFest coming up April 6, as well as the Dallas Mavericks Celiac Awareness Event brought to you by the good folks over at Gluten-Free Calendar. I’ll be heading north to Dallas, April 12th to attend the event. I hope to see you there!

Also, I’d like to give a shout-out to the hilarious - April Peveteaux - who recently had a book signing for her new book coming out titled ~ Gluten is my Bitch (available for pre-order on Amazon). Thanks for mentioning our mobile app, Locate Special Diet, on your SXSW panel April!

Locate Special Diet is LIVE!

It’s finally here. After a year and a half of work and research, the Locate Special Diet website is live. Oh… it feels so good to type those words. Let me tell you a little bit about my baby…

Locate Special Diet helps people find local businesses that cater to a gluten-free, vegetarian, or organic lifestyle.

The database currently includes approximately 30,000 businesses in over 27 U.S. cities. Users can browse local restaurants and grocery stores by location, dietary preference and type of food. There is also a section to filter places that offer gluten-free, vegetarian or organic drinks. Austin is currently the only city with the largest drinks database, and it includes places to get smoothies, juices or even gluten-free beer.

Don’t see your favorite local business in the database? Users can submit businesses to Locate Special Diet and after they are approved by our team, we will add them in. This includes restaurants, grocery stores and drinks for any city. Our team is also furiously working to extend the current database to reach others looking to find places that cater to their special diet lifestyle.

I thought I would share some of my Favorite Things About Locate Special Diet.

Booze a la Cart with Liquid Austin and Lembas Bakery and Breakfast

Lembas Green Eggs and Ham. No green food coloring here. Their eggs are pureed in a blender with fresh kale before scrambling.

Recently, I had the pleasure of joining Emma Janzen of Liquid Austin (Austin 360) for an evening of cocktails and delicious gluten-free food at Lembas Bakery and Breakfast. Lembas is the first completely gluten-free food trailer in Austin, which recently opened, and they are serving a wide variety of [Read more...]

Peppermint-Green Tea with a Twist of Calm

Keep calm and carry on. That is easier said than done sometimes, but I keep telling myself that. See the stack of papers above? Apparently, I need to have it all memorized by October 22nd (cumulative Masters final). Yes, I need to stay calm.

Apple-Pumpkin Butter

Happy first day of Fall! Fall is definitely in the air here in Austin (kind of). The temperature is giving us a short break (hopefully long break), pumpkins are being spotted at our neighborhood grocery stores, and the candy is filling the shelves for the trick or treaters.  It’s hard to believe it’s almost October. Life gets busy. Especially when you are starting a company companies, finishing graduate school (October!), and just the general hustle and bustle of life… [Read more...]

Gluten-Free Chocolate Mug Cake (in less than 5 minutes)

This post is sponsored by Locate Special Diet! Download the FREE app today for iPhone/Android or visit their website. Locate Special Diet helps you find local places that offer gluten-free, vegetarian or organic options. In over 30+ U.S.Cities!

I’ve been fascinated by all these microwave recipes I have seen lately. Cooking things in the microwave is normally not something I would do. I like the process of creating meals, even though they may take a while to prepare sometimes. I use that time to relax… hang out with Chris and our dogs, read a book while a meal is in the oven, or listen to my favorite band. Sometimes cravings take over though, and I want something that is fast and delicious. In this case, I wanted a quick dessert recipe that doesn’t take much effort at all.  [Read more...]

Amy’s Banana Oat Muffins + a Giveaway

Amy is the author of Simply Sugar and Gluten Free, a blog dedicated to gluten and sugar free living. She recently debuted her first cookbook titled Simply Sugar and Gluten-Free: 180 Easy and Delicious Recipes You Can Make in 20 Minutes or Less. I have followed along Amy’s blog for some time now, and I’m always impressed with the recipes she comes up with. They can be simple but full of flavor, elegant and certainly crowd-pleasing. We were thrilled when Amy announced that she was [Read more...]

Cocoa Pancakes (Gluten-Free)

Here I am talking about pancakes again. I’ve been busy testing all sorts of pancake recipes, and I have yet to get sick of them. I just love the texture and flavor of pancakes. This recipe is the exact same as the last pancake recipe, but with the addition of cocoa powder. The cocoa adds a nice touch to the batter. You can add more if you like, but I don’t like the cocoa flavor to overwhelm the simple pancake flavor. The rich cocoa really shines with the extra virgin olive oil. I’d recommend you serve with fresh berries, powdered sugar and plenty of butter. [Read more...]
