Gluten-Free Food Options at ACL 2011

It’s already that time of the year… ACL 2011. The gluten-free friendly food options have grown this year. I thought we had it good last year, but this year is great! As always, please be aware of cross contamination. The food and drink companies listed below work in close quarters at the ACL Eats Food Court. Be conscious of your food choices, because there is a risk of cross contamination. Other than that, have fun and I’ll see y’all out there! Also, I should note that if you have Celiac Disease, ask your doctor for a doctor’s note. A doctor’s note stating you have Celiac Disease allows you to bring in your own food. Or be a rebel and sneak in your own food. Do it.

  1. Thanks! It’s my first ACL (been here 5 yr) and was worried about my being able to eat anything for 3 days! Appreciate the info!

  2. This is a great idea for a post! I’m curious, did you find out that all of Torchy’s tortillas have gluten, including the corn ones? It seems as though corn-flour blend tortillas are common. Paco’s on 51st street serves corn tortillas with wheat. At least this was true when I was there earlier this year.

  3. Anyone know how many calories are in the Lonesome Dove Mushroom and Tenderloin Skewers??

    • No, but I imagine they are lower in calorie than some items on the list. They are lower carb since they are just steak and mushrooms. I had them last year and they were awesome! Smaller portion

  4. YUMMY!! Can’t wait!

  5. thanks so much for this! I pretty much didn’t eat anything at acl last year since I was worried the vendors wouldn’t know what gluten is. I really appreciate it!

  6. lauren (ellebee) says:

hey jess! thanks again for all the great gf research!

so i just saw that garridos is going to have tacos at ACL. are they not gluten free??
it seems like they would be, since at the restaurant they are…

and out of curiosity, would you eat olivias whiskey glazed chicken?? i always avoid gluten grain alcohols like whiskey. do you?

    • No problem. Glad you find the guide helpful.

I drink whiskey all the time and many other liquors without a problem (tequila, rum, vodka). It’s the mixers that are the tricky guys.

And garridos never got back to me regarding their tacos so not sure how they will be prepared. I’m assuming they will use flour tortillas like most restaurants because they hold up well. In that case, I just wouldn’t eat them.

      • awesome job jess! Fyi garridos is super GF friendly and generally uses corn tortillas. i’m going to go by and ask them. if i find something out, i’ll post it!

        • Hey Sarah- ya garrido’s is gf friendly but the manager told me their tacos would not be at ACL this year. But as always there could have been miscommunication and they could have offered some options. I steer clear and just enjoy the actual restaurant. Hope you had a good time !

  7. lauren (ellebee) says:

hehe and one more question: would you eat the “gf” batterless crispy friend artichokes? i would be scared they are fried in the same gluteny oil, but who knows…

    • Lauren- if you request that the artichokes not be battered, they will give you the option to not have them fried. Which means, they will not be in the shared oil. If you want them fried without the batter, then yes, it will mean possible CC.

  8. What a relief to see this! I made my husband take me to lunch before coming today for fear that I couldn’t eat anything. Thanks for providing this! Now I can eat at the festival. :)

  9. Made my way to Maudies yesterday (Friday) only to be told that NONE of their tacos are gluten-free! Ended up with a Lonesome Dove skewer and an Odd Duck goat cheese stuffed banana pepper. Both very good, but pricey. Will try Wahoo’s today.

    • Carol- yes as usual there was miscommunication between the manager and the wait staff. They did in fact have corn tortillas. I always hate it when that happens but the bright side is, is that it is probably better off that way. I tried other vendors instead and had good luck.

  10. This was super helpful over ACL weekend!! Are you going to do one for the State Fair in Dallas?? TX/OU is right around the corner…
