ATX Gluten-Free News: December 2010

Welcome to another segment of ATX Gluten-Free News!  For those of you stopping by for the first time, ATX Gluten-Free News is a segment I post regularly that lists the businesses, grocery stores, restaurants and trailers for the Austin area that offer gluten-free options or gluten-free menus. Also on the news segments are links to national gluten-free news stories, blog posts I enjoy, and other happenings of ATX Gluten-Free.

Thundercloud Subs is now offering gluten-free hoagies made by Smart Flour Blends, at the Lake Austin location only. Read more about it here.

Trio has temporarily gotten rid of their gluten-free menu. They are currently developing a new menu, so stay tuned! They are still able to modify things to be gluten-free in the mean time.

Mama Fu’s newest location is now open in Sunset Valley. They have a full gluten-free menu. To see all of their locations in the Austin area, click here.

The Steeping Room has a great gluten-free friendly menu, with the letter “GF” next to the gluten-free items.

The dates are set for my Gluten-Free Pizza Fest. The fest will go from February 7-11, 2011 and February 14-18, 2011. A detailed blog post to come soon…

Congratulations to Uchiko for being named #7 on the Best New Restaurants in America list, by GQ. Like it’s brother (or sister) restaurant Uchi, Uchiko is very gluten-free friendly.

Beat the Wheat is a new gluten-free bakery and cafe in Fredericksburg. Read a review about the cafe here.

The W Hotel in downtown Austin recently opened and they have a new stand-out restaurant, called Trace. Trace offers a large menu, full of seasonal food. They have many gluten-free friendly choices.

Groupon is featuring La Condesa today. La Condesa is now open for lunch. They are very gluten-free friendly.

Carmelo’s is yet another Italian eatery in Austin that serves gluten-free pasta, among other gluten-free friendly items.

Soleil is another new gluten-free friendly restaurant now open. This restaurant has amazing views of Lake Travis and great food.

This Saturday, December 18, all profits from P. Terry’s will be donated to the Austin American-Statesman’s Season for Caring. All their burgers are gluten-free (minus the bun, course).

Taco Deli update: in order to get a gluten-free taco you must specify “gluten allergy” when ordering.

Gluten-free friendly restaurants open for Christmas, New Years, or both include: The Carillon, Carmelo’s, Chez Zee, Ciola’s, Corazon at Castle Hill, Eddie V’s, Fogo De Chao, Foreign and Domestic, Four Seasons, Hudsons on the Bend, La Sombra, Monument Cafe, Mulberry, Paggi House, Parkside, Soleil, Stubb’s, Threadgills, 24 Diner, Urban an American Grill, and Zoot. Zuzus Bee Caves location is now closed.

Soup Peddler/Juicebox is now open on South Lamar. Many soups and smoothies are gluten-free, check with the staff.

Fonda San Miguel was recently featured on the Texas Monthly Best Mexican Restaurant list. One of my all-times favorites, Fonda San Miguel is very gluten-free friendly.

If you noticed something different, I do have new blog logo! The logo will be much larger on my new site, which will launch in the beginning of 2011.   4. OOPS! Fixed a typo of double negatives.

    FYI: I don’t think Urban an American Grill in the Domain is gluten-free-friendly. The bartender told me that I could eat everything on the app menu except the typical wheat-based foods. So I did. Then I was told 30 minutes later that he was wrong, and almost nothing on the menu is gluten-free anymore. Ugh.
