ATX Gluten-Free News: April 2010, Part 1

Jason’s Deli is considering bringing gluten-free bread to all US locations. They are asking you to vote on whether you would buy the gluten-free bread. To vote, click here :

The Jason’s Deli by the Arboretum is holding a test run on gluten-free bread. You are able to go there and have a gluten-free sandwich! I am not sure how long the test will run, but hurry before it’s too late!

Frank is offering gluten-free hot dog buns now. All their house made sausages and hot dogs are gluten-free.  They have some gluten-free sides including: waffle fries and the corn cup.

Wheatsville and Whole Foods are now carrying two flavors of Daiya cheese, mozzarella and cheddar. Daiya is a gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, dairy-free shredded cheese. To learn more about Daiya click here.

Trio in The Four Seasons, has one of the best happy hours in town. Trio is one of my favorite spots for appetizers and drinks. They offer gluten-free bread.

Uncle Billy’s kindly tweeted me back after I’d asked them whether or not their BBQ sauce was gluten-free- it is not, because it has soy sauce in it. But they do have some gluten-free sides such as: green beans, potatoes, carrots and black beans. They also told me that their meats are gluten-free, including their seasoning.

Frito Lay has updated their gluten-free product list. To see the huge list of gluten-free options from Frito lay, click here. The only product that is made on a dedicated gluten-free line is the Lay’s Stacks. There is a chance of cross contamination with the other products, but they told me they are dedicated to washing the lines in between products.

The famous Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels are developing a gluten-free pretzel product. For more information click here.

El Greco Taverna is a great greek restaurant located over by UT. They have a full gluten-free menu. To see the menu, click here.

Galaxy Cafe also has a gluten-free menu. They serve Redbridge. Click here for their gluten-free menu.

Las Palomas in Westlake has a gluten-free menu now. One of my favorite locally owned Mexican restaurants, the GF menu is quite large! Click here to see their gluten-free menu.

Chez Zee has a full gluten-free menu. They also highlight gluten-free cakes. Stop in for a slice of gluten-free goodness. Click here for their menu.

Stubb’s is now changing their entire product line to be gluten-free. This includes their BBQ sauces, marinades and rubs. This is super exciting news! You will soon be able to eat gluten-free in their restaurant since they are changing their spices and sauces. Gotta love GF BBQ! Their new products should be in grocery stores within the next couple months. They will be clearly marked with a GF symbol.

Udi’s gluten-free bagels are in Whole Foods now. Central Market and Sprouts should have them soon if not already. Udi’s is working on releasing a gluten-free hamburger bun and hot dog buns sometime this summer. Just in time for grill season! You may also order the bagels online.

Canyon Bakehouse is a new bread line out of Colorado. They make several different types of bread including: 7 grain bread (my favorite), cinnamon raisin bread, white bread, rosemary thyme foccacia and cranberry muffins. This bread is similar to Udi’s in texture and holds up in sandwiches well. The 7 grain bread is wonderful and has a delicious whole grain taste. They are available for purchase at Whole Foods, but you may also order them online- click here. I highly recommend it. Thanks for the samples Canyon Bakehouse!

Jake’s Natural Fine Foods, a local company that is famous for their granola (that isn’t gluten-free by the way), has stepped into the gluten-free world by developing a delicious cookie. For more information on their new line of gluten-free cookies, see Addie Broyles article on Relish Austin.

Java Dive Cafe, located in Lakeway has updated their menu selections. Any of the items listed on their regular menu may be made gluten-free. They have an extensive pizza selection, all may be made with a gluten-free crust. They also have a great waffle menu for breakfast or brunch. Over 10 different choices for gluten-free waffles, all made on a dedicated waffle iron.  To see what gluten-free products they use, click here.

I am currently developing a list of bars/restaurants in Austin who serve gluten-free beer (Redbridge, Green’s, etc.) If you know of any, please feel free to add it in the comment section! We have a great list so far.

Thanks for stopping by!
